The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4

The Second Book of Chronicles

Chapter 4

¹ He made an altar of bronze, twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits high.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verse 1)

Oh God my beloved Father my prayer corner may not be this big or so richly furnished, for I have only a medium sized wooden desk from which I offer my prayers, however on the other hand, I have other altars everywhere I go, such as my workplace, where I offer You each of my clients, and all the people whom You wish me to come across Amen. Everywhere I go is an altar that can bear much fruit according to Your will Amen.

² Then he made the molten sea; it was round, ten cubits from rim to rim, and five cubits high. A line of thirty cubits would encircle it completely. ³ Under it were panels all around, each of ten cubits, surrounding the sea, there were two rows of panels, cast when it was cast. ⁴ It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; the sea was set on them. The hindquarters of each were toward the inside. ⁵ Its thickness was a handbreath; its rim was made like the rim of a cup, like the flower of a lily; it held three thousand baths. ⁶ He also made ten basins in which to wash, and set five on the right side, and five on the left. In these they were to rinse what was used for the burnt offering. The sea was for the priests to wash in.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 2 to 6)

Oh God my blessed Father, the molten sea reminds me of the basin that is used during the rites of baptism where original sin is destroyed in the consecrated water and is no more. Throughout my life I am in the process of becoming more aware of my sins and being cleansed of them. Each day of my life is one step down into the basin until I am fully immersed and ready to go out from the other side and meet You in heaven Amen. This is my dream. Thank You Jesus.

⁷ He made ten golden lampstands as prescribed and set them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verse 7)

Oh God my Father may my soul be enlightened by Faith in You. May the temple within me always be enlightened by the flame of faith even though I am still weak and a sinner Amen.

⁸ He also made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. And he made one hundred basins of gold.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verse 8)

Oh God my beloved Father, You love me so much that You invite me to have fellowship with You. You have even reserved a table and chair and even made a basin which is an opportunity for me to be cleansed both spiritually and physically before I appear before You Amen. I thank You for such an opportunity my God and Father Amen.

⁹ He made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court; he overlaid their doors with bronze. ¹⁰ He set the sea at the southeast corner of the house.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 9 to 10)

Oh God my beloved Father, if I could I would cover the doors and chambers of my heart with gold, so that it could be a worthy dwelling place for Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

¹¹ And Huram made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. Thus Huram finished the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of God ¹² the two pillars, the bowls and the two capitals on the top of the pillars; and the two latticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on top of the pillars; ¹³ the four hundred pomegranates for the two latticeworks, two rows of pomegranates for each latticework, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 11 to 13)

Oh God my Father, You have given us all different skills, I pray that we all use them both in the Church and in our everyday lives especially for the good of others and even for ourselves Amen.

¹⁴ He made the stands, the basins on the stands, ¹⁵ the one sea, and the twelve oxen underneath
 it.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 14 to 15)

Oh God my Father, in life You have assigned us to different roles, some us are stands meaning reliable and responsible people and others are basins supportive and ready to listen to those who need a shoulder to cry on. Amen.

¹⁶ The pots, the shovels, the forks, and all the equipment for these Hursm-abi made to be burnished bronze for King Solomon for the house of the LORD.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 16)

Oh God my Father, whatever our role in the Church or Roman Catholic Church, may we be good instruments that serve our God given purpose Amen. May we be useful in Your hands my God and Father Amen.

¹⁷ In the p-lain of the Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 17)

Oh God my beloved Father I thank You for being a good listener, I thank You for giving me the opportunity to voice my achievements and my disappointments, and trash out everything with You Amen.

¹⁸ Solomon made all these things in great quantities, so that the weight of the bronze was not determined.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 18)

Oh God my beloved Father I pray that like Solomon we learn to invest in our relationship with You in both time of prayer and in time dedicated to helping others, because when we help others it is as if we are helping You Amen.

¹⁹ So Solomon made all the things that were in the house of God; the golden altar, the tables for the bread of the presence, ²⁰ the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold to burn before the inner sanctuary, as prescribed; ²¹ the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of purest gold; ²² the snuffers, basins, ladles, and firepans, of pure gold. As for the entrance to the temple; the inner doors to the most holy place and the doors of the nave of the temple were of gold.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 4 verses 19 to 22)

Oh God my beloved Father, whatever our status in life, regardless if we are young or old rich or poor intelligent or of low Iq, we are all instruments at Your disposal. Some of us may have been called to lead a life that is on a more intimate level with You such as the priesthood, while others like myself and many others form part of the laity. Nevertheless we all have an important role to play Amen.

Oh God my beloved Father, I would like to end this meditation on the fourth chapter of the second book of Chronicles with the following prayer.

Oh God my loving Father, as members of Your Church be it the Roman Catholic Church or other churches we are all instruments with a particular role to play. Some of us may be instruments of gold, being called to serve a more intimate life with You, and others such as myself may be instruments made of stone or iron or maybe of bronze, that are used to fulfill other roles.  I pray that during the course of this life, You reveal to us the role and purpose that You have chosen for us to live and give us the necessary qualities to fulfill the roles that You have chosen for us Amen.
