The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1

 Second Book of

Chronicles

 Chapter 1

1. Solomon son of David established himself in his kingdom: the LORD his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.

(Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verse 1)

Oh God my Father the good traits of King David were passed on to his son Solomon. As much as You had kept Your promises with his father King David You promised to keep Your promises with the son. Oh God thank You for being such a loving Father. As in the case of human parents, You also transmitted Yourself and traits to Jesus Christ who became human for our salvation Amen.

2. Solomon summoned all Israel, the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, the judges, and all the leaders of all Israel, the heads of families.

(Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verse 2)

Oh God my Father, today You are also summoning us all to crack out of our alienation and focus on our spiritual reality which is a fact. Today You are calling on Your Church to preach more about hell and its consequences as much as on Your love and mercy. Amen

3. Then Solomon, and the whole assembly with him went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for God's tent of meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness, was there. 4. (But David had brought the ark of God up from Kiriathjearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.)

(Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 3 to 4)

Oh God my Father as much as I believe that Church is the Holy place where we can meet and have fellowship with You, I also believe that I can even talk to You anywhere even from my home during this time of prayer as I am doing now. I feel that I am in Your presence and for this I truly thank You. Amen.

5. Moreover the bronze altar that Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, had made, was there in front of the tabernacle of the LORD. And Solomon and the assembly inquired at it.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verse 5)

Oh God, my Father I can only imagine how proud Bezalel felt on seeing the bronze altar that he had made for You in front of the tabernacle. Moreover, You take pride in our accomplishments as every kind parent does when seeing anything done by one's children. May You also feel proud of us, when our time is up on earth and give us a big hug when we are with You in Heaven Amen.

6. Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD,  which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it. 7. That night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask what I should give you." 8. Solomon said to God, "You have shown great and steadfast love to my father David, and have made me succeed him as king. 9. O LORD God, let your promise to my father David now be fulfilled, for you have made me a king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10.  Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of Yours?" 11. God answered Solomon, "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may rule my people over whom I have made you king, 12. wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like." 13. So Solomon came from the high place at Gibeon, from the tent of meeting, to Jerusalem. And he reigned over Israel.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 6 to 13)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for answering in abundance to our prayers as You did to that of Solomon, whose prayer was not for his own personal gain but for the well-being of others, those who were placed under his custody as king. This shows the power of intercession when we pray for others, You not only answer our intercessions but You also consider our own needs. I thank You, my God and Father, for being so caring and generous to humanity. We do not deserve such a Father. Amen

14. Solomon gathered together chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses, which he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verse 14)

Oh God my Father, Solomon prepared his horses and chariots in order for them to be ready for use just in case, likewise, we are always to be prepared against the attacks of the evil spirits, that stop at nothing in order to risk the well-being of both our souls and our bodies. Therefore our motto is to 'Always be ready'. In order to be ready, we are to be firm and constant in prayer time, the sacraments and in our relationship with both God and others. Amen.

15. The king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stone, and he made cedar as plentiful as the sycamore of the Shephelah. 16. Solomon's horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the king's traders received them from Kue at the prevailing price. 17. They imported from Egypt, and then exported, a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty; so through them these were exported to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram.

(The Second Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 15 to 17)

Oh God my Father when we place our lives in Your hands as in the case of Solomon, we will prosper both spiritually and even materially. Your providence will be greater if we share of this providence with others and not keep any of it or the majority for ourselves, for when we share with others this is highly approved by You for it is as if we are sharing with You Amen.

Oh God my Father I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God, my Father may Your Name be blessed forever and ever, may You impart on us the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. May You anoint us with Your Holy Spirit, May we invest not in the wisdom of this world alone but more in the Wisdom of Your awareness in our lives. May You permit us to grow spiritually more than academically.  May our lives be balanced oh God my Father so that we will always acknowledge You as our God and Father, 'Soul Creator' and Ruler over all the earth even though we may not always see You at work Amen.
